Restaurant Goldener Adler Stuttgart - Germany

I've heard some agencies saying: "Well, you take cool pictures of very nice places, but it's not that hard to make perfectly designed resorts or beautiful places look pretty. Can you also make ordinary things look good?"

- YOU are the judge to answer that! Can I?

Just 2 days ago, I was hired to shoot an entire for the website of a local restaurant, here in Stuttgart, Germany. The restaurant itself, is not designed in a fancy way. Nonetheless, they are known as one of the best restaurants in the city, due to its amazing food! They annually receive the Bib Gourmand. After many years, they wanted to create a new website. So they hired me as one of the many photographers and agencies they've interviewed. The goal was, to make it look nice, but not over-realistically fancy. Just high-quality casual in a tuned-down manner. For the first time, I also photographed food. I'm not a professional food photographer but for this purpose, I think I can be very happy about the overall results.

4*s Relais & Châteaux Landromantik Hotel Oswald

I was recently hired to photograph this stunning hotel right in the heart of the Bavarian Forest in Kaikenried, Germany. The hotel itself is part of the exclusive club of Relais & Chateaux, a club featuring the best 500 hotels worldwide. I was hired for 6 days of photography and 7 days of retouching to finish this picture series. They already invited me twice to their hotel, the first time in December 2019 to photograph their new spa area and simultaneously, to renew their imagery of the old spa area, to have a cohesive look throughout the entire series. Being on location, my client looked me over the shoulders to see, how I work. In the end of the shoot he mentioned that I’d had really used every trick in the book to create stunning photographs: readjusting and perfectly aligning all furniture, staging the scene with neat details, wireless tethered shooting, light painting, HDR bracketing, marking the tripod legs on the floor, using flash. His appreciation for my quality of work felt really good.

Having delivered those images to my client, I felt his appreciation again as he called immediately after Christmas telling me “Matthias, your pictures are so good, I just have to book you again to take pictures of all our rooms.” So already in January I came back to do exactly that. On my arrival, the senior owner of the hotel Mr. Oswald said:

“Due to your photographs, our 4*s Relais & Châteaux Hotel gained significantly more international prestige. Since then, we receive more international bookings through Relais & Châteaux, even from Australia”

,reconfirming his utter contentment with my photography services. And even after the second shoot, everybody was truly happy to immediately upload my pictures to their website. Overall, it took 13 workdays + 4 days of travel to get these results. My client and I both know: Details matter, and it’s worth paying for them.

To get a look behind the scenes and to see me using some of the tricks in the book, I invite you to visit my Instagram story highlights “BTS and BTS Oswald”. http://instagram.com/snapshopped.

LUX - Junge Kirche Nürnberg | Young Church Nuremberg | Germany - The architecture of Nuremberg - Part 3

Continuing my project the Architecture of Nuremberg [Part 1 | Part 2] (Die Architektur von Nürnberg), this time I really found a very special property, the LUX church. It is the most modern church I have ever seen and set a foot into. When I posted my behind the scenes footage in my Instagram story, several people commented: “It looks like a bar” or “is there beer on tap?”. So definitely, it is surprising how modern churches can be. Especially protestant congregations are known for being a bit more casual and searching new ways to win back a younger clientele that does not only come to church to get married and never show up again. I have grown up in a very Christian environment. Nowadays, I don’t think I really believe in god or anything. Anyway, I still think that this modern architecture and very loose atmosphere can definitely attract a younger audience.

This church definitely is a pioneer project, as the LUX Junge Kirche the first church for teenagers and young adults in whole Bavaria. After a two-years renovation it opened its gates in 2009. I am actually really surprised that such a modern protestant church can be found in Bavaria, the county of old-fashioned and conservative catholics! Such a pleasure to see this fresh and futuristic architecture and design!

Still, I have to photograph the exterior, but my first priority are shootings for my clients of course. So after the completion of my assignments, I’m going to continue this shoot. So stay tuned! And for sure, check out my Instagram for more imagery and behind the scenes footage in my stories.

Cheers!
